Cannabis growers often find themselves, after harvesting and pruning the inflorescences of their plants, with many leaves that are poor in resin that they don’t know what to do. Leaves have much less THC level then buds and they’re not worth smoking. However, there are several ways we can use these leaves.

Cannabinoids are compounds that are soluble in alcohol or fat. So there are basically two types of extractions possible here: those made with alcohol and those made with fatty substances such oils and butter. All extracts can be made with both inflorescences and leaves. Clearly buds will give much more powerful by products than the latter.

For all recipes it is convenient to use dried and chopped marijuana.

Cannabis oil

For making cannabis oil is better to use ethyl alcohol as pure as possible. We will put the chopped marijuana in a jar and add the alcohol until it is completely covered. We will leave the weed to macerate for 2-3 weeks in a dark and cool place. The jar should be shaken a couple of times per week.

After this time, filter the contents with a cloth and pour the green liquid in a large and shallow container. Then we will let the alcohol evaporate until we no longer can smell it. The area obviously should be enough ventilated with no open flames around.

At this point we will collect all the residue from the bottom of the container with a spatula, and we will have our cannabis oil.

Cannabis oil can be mixed with tobacco or marijuana to increase potency. If the oil is very sticky it can be mixed with a little flour obtained from the leaves to make a kind of pollen.

Cannabis tincture

To make a cannabis tincture, the procedure it’s the same above for the oil, except for the final evaporation. In tinctures not all the alcohol evaporates, but a part is left to keep for the extract in liquid form.

Cannabis liqueurs

We can extract the cannabinoids from the herb by macerating it for a few weeks in a high-proof liqueur such as rum or vodka for example.

We will get a flavored liqueur that combines the psychotropic effects of cannabis with those of alcohol.

Psychoactive Butter or Cannabutter

For the preparation it’s necessary to chop 100g of leaves and inflorescences of marijuana, putting them in a saucepan with 1 liter of scarce boiling water. Then 250g are added. of butter by boiling for 20-30 minutes.

After this time we filter everything through a cloth to separate the leaves. We let the liquid cool and put it in the fridge. In a few hours the butter will have solidified forming a layer over the water. Once removed gently with a slotted spoon and dried with a cloth; It is ready for use.

Cannabis extract in olive oil

The procedure is the same as for making psychoactive butter. Therefore, Maria leaves with a small resin content are always boiled for 20/30 minutes rather than a mix of chopped leaves and inflorescences. 100g per liter of water to which 250cl of extra virgin olive oil is added.

Once the extract has been filtered, it should be placed in the freezer instead of in the fridge. When the freeze, we can separate the water from the very thick oil with a spatula / spoon.

Cannabutter is a jolly in the kitchen and it’s ideal for dressing salads or making some tasty Mary Jane garlic bread.
